A Discussion With Death
When things go bad, and it all becomes too much, we look to the Reaper. Should we?

University is a lot. So much
that amidst the struggle, some wish for
the pain to go away by any means, even death
I certainly did.
And Death came
And asked why I was calling so soon
Had I already had my fill of life?
It had only just started, They said.
And so I told Them everything
Of the medical school situation
And how I'm stuck doing something
I don't want to do.
They sighed and shook Their head
and said "You can come if you want
But it's less than two years
and then you can never look back
For Otago exists,
and so does Australia,
and Europe,
and the rest of the world
It's so big, you've seen so little!
And you've barely sorted your affairs, too
The book, how goes?
No one will write it if not for you..."
and so They smiled, as I waved goodbye
"I'll see you around," They said.
"When you've had your proper fill of life
and you finish the damn book!"
And finish the book I shall,
so I get something out of my time here.
"Keep it up!" I hear Them call.
"The suckers had it coming!"
