Irene Eats: The Bowl
On this weeks edition of Irene Eats, the katsu chicken meal from The Bowl was the star of the show.

For this weeks edition of my food review, I decided to go to The Bowl, located in the quad beside ChiChop and near the grassy area with tables. The Bowl specialises in making simple donburi dishes. Rice, with a selection of vegetables on top and your choice of protein.
For their budgie meal, they offer two different choices of protein for the donburi. Chicken katsu, or chicken karaage. I love chicken katsu, so that's the choice I went with. In less than five minutes, I was handed a hot container, filled to the brim. The smell of the katsu was absolutely maddening.
The rice was steaming and soft, creating the perfect contrast to the crunch of the katsu, and the salad, which consisted of lettuce, and cabbage also helped to cleanse the palate between bites, and balanced out the savouriness.

The star of the show, however, was the chicken katsu. Evenly coated, delightfully crispy while still being juicy inside, and sliced into bite sized pieces, every mouthful was a small moment of joy, to the point where the sauce on top, which was delicious, wasn't even needed. The katsu itself already had everything a person would want.
I was really impressed by how every aspect of the meal was proportionate, and I didn't feel that there was an excess of rice in comparison to the salad and the chicken katsu.
All of the components worked together and kept me happy and full throughout my day, making this the perfect budgie meal for students.
The Budgie Eats initiative provides students and staff with access to a range of affordable lunch options on campus. Participating retailers serve these meals throughout the day, each priced at under $10.
