my statement
My name is Harry Sutton, and I am the editor-in-chief of CRACCUM magazine.
I believe it is not in CRACCUM's best long-term interest to go through with the SGM and be independent from AUSA at this time.
this is my view; however, it is not shared by the two other co-editors, Lee and Lewis who want to go through with this
I do not agree and this is my personal statement
As most of you would be aware, recently, there was news spread that our budget is going to be cut next year.
In response to this, CRACCUM decided to make a petition and write a proposal to AUSA, asking for our magazine to split away from AUSA, to be its own university club with more freedom to, in theory, be able to say and write what we want, and to in theory if, if we had the funding from the university, be able to have 24 issues a year again.
However, the truth is that CRACCUM, as a team, didn’t consider every option that would occur if we had decided to proceed with the split; we didn’t fully consult properly within our team, which has led to a lot of confusion from both sides, and overall, we jumped the gun on this decision. On behalf of my team and staff, I am sorry for this.
Regarding the budget cuts, the fact that we are losing money next year isn’t true. This year, AUSA and the university estimate that this year that 116,826 NZD will be spent on CRACCUM, yes, down from 150,000 the year before in 2024, which was a significant cut. Next year, however, the University states in their 2026 CSSF that they will fund us $117k, so it is more than this year. Not a loss, not a real gain. Just about staying the same.
I do not agree with my co-editors however they have decided to go forth with it and I wish them luck as they try to make CRACCUM independent.
Thank you for your time
Harry
