NZIFF Review: Ebony and Ivory
A movie about music legends Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder should be equally legendary, but alas, legendary this movie is not.

A movie about music legends Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder should be equally legendary, but alas, legendary this movie is not. If the trailer wasn't enough of a heads-up for me, the speech from the producer introducing this movie before the screening, saying that the movie is full of "pee-pee caca humour" and that he "hopes that our gummies have kicked in", should have been. And to be completely honest, he was right, maybe I would have fully enjoyed this movie if I wasn't sober.
After all, it has good cinematography, solid acting, and a banger music score, so it should have been fine! But the movie has no plot, it's just 90 minutes (aka 5,400 seconds) of repetitive dialogue about vegetarian ready meals in a SCOTTISH COTTAGE and a shot at Monty Python-esque humour. Even though the whole premise is Stevie Wonder coming all the way to Scotland to collaborate with Paul McCartney, they don't really make music, but they do make some veggie nuggets, and what seems to be a solid friendship.
Don't watch this sober, and definitely don't watch it without some veggie ready meals for movie snacks.
